HUNT WRITE UP BY Tyler Pike
WHAT TO EXPECT
When waterfowlers talk about hunting destinations, one state that most likely does not make the list is Florida. But as a native of the Sunshine state, I call those people to rethink that. With the state being surrounded by water and full of lakes, rivers, ponds, and marshes, there is plenty of places to chase waterfowl. One word that comes to mind when I think about Florida waterfowl hunting is diversity. From South Florida up to the Panhandle, and from coast to coast, there are a plethora of hunting opportunities in Florida that all require different techniques to be successful. From open-water lakes and ponds chasing ringnecks, to river marshes looking for puddle ducks, to North Florida “timber” for wood ducks and the occasional stray mallard, to the coast for divers of all species and great saltwater fishing, and many more unique ways to chase birds, Florida has much to offer hunters of any skill level with a chance to harvest a variety of species as well. There are also some terrific quota opportunities for locals and non-residents as well. And for the hunter chasing his 41 species, you have a great chance to bag your Black-Bellied Whistling duck, Fulvous Whistling Duck, and Mottled duck, maybe even all 3 on the same day. With reputable guides and friendly local hunters, you are sure to find someone willing to show you that Florida is much more than Disney and a tourist attraction. Come see wild Florida and all her glory, and I am sure you will change your opinion of top waterfowl destinations.
