WHAT TO EXPECT
I have lived and grown up in North AL for the 22 years I've been alive. When it comes to chasing waterfowl, your choices are very bleak. From chasing divers on Guntersville Lake and Wheeler Reservoir to gunning for puddle ducks on public land such as Swan Creek Management Area, there is no doubt that you have to work for the birds here. A good saying to accurately describe would be "pick your poison.” The river and lakes can be dangerous in their own definition with the wind creating huge swells resulting in tangled spreads and loss of downed birds. While on the other hand public access land being miles of biking in or even foot races only to have another set of hunters set up not far from you. Needless to say, no hunt here is going easy by any means but when the stars align and you have that great day with your buddies it makes it all worthwhile.
Lots of TVA land access along with public lakes and Reservoir.
You will need a boat for lakes and reservoir.
Also may need a bike or a good pair of running shoes for long trails to public access.
Lots of open water bays or island hunting on lakes and reservoirs.
Public land Managements areas are mostly swamps or flooded AG fields.
Layout blinds and or layout chairs will benefit you in those situations.
Last but not least a friendly attitude when it comes to the management areas.
TARGETED SPECIES - Mallards, Wood Duck, Gadwall, Ringneck, Bluebill, Canada Goose, Merganser, Goldeneye, Green wing and Blue wing Teal.
